The Harties Cableway was first constructed in 1973 to offer views of Hartbeespoort Dam and its surroundings. It is located in North West Province, about 1 kilometer due east of Hartbeespoort town. As a way to attract more visitors, the cable was modernized in the year 2010 and opened by the then South Africa's Minister for Tourism Marthinus van Schalkwyk on the August of the same year.

Generally, Hartbeespoort is a tourist magnet. Apart from the aerial view rides, as tourist, you  can visit a host of tourist attractions including; Hartbeespoort Dam, Hartbeespoort Aquarium, Hartbeespoort Snake Park, Eberon Leisure Resort, The Elephant Sanctuary in Hartbeespoort Dam among others.

If you are not a fan of wildlife, you can get a yacht from Transvaal Yacht Club and have a leisure tour around the high seas of South Africa. For those who would want to shop, the nearby Welwitchia Country Market is a good place to start sampling the local fashion and delicacies.

The population here includes a mixture of Africans, people of European Descent, and Asians. There are 4 major languages spoken here including Afrikaans, English, Tswana, and Tsonga. If you do not speak any of the languages, you will need to carry with you an English translation encyclopedia in order to be able to communicate properly.
